WHAT HAPPENED?
Onana stoked the fires before the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie, saying the Red Devils were 'way better' than their French rivals, leading to a pre-game war of words with ex-United midfielder Nemanja Matic. It appears Onana's teammates took umbrage with that with suggestions the Cameroonian number one tempted fate with his comments.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Onana was at fault for both of Lyon's goals in the 2-2 draw. The furore around the game has led to speculation that Ruben Amorim is considering dropping the 29-year-old in favour of Altay Bayindir. According to a new report, several United players would back the decision.

WHAT A SOURCE SAID
An unnamed insider at Old Trafford told : "Some of the players are really p*ssed off with him. You tempt fate when you say things like he did and then you end up looking silly if it comes back and bites you. Some wonder if it’s time for Altay Bayindir to be given a go."

The fallout from Onana's antics and performances will be felt when United take on Newcastle on Sunday. It could well be Bayindir between the sticks, which will lead to an inevitable debate over Onana's position for the second leg of the Europa League tie on Thursday.
